NoCapWiki editorial explanation
1. What does it mean?
돌판 is an informal name for the idol scene. It can refer to the environment around idol groups, fandoms, releases, performances and discussion rather than one particular fan club. 'The idol scene' or 'K-pop fandom circles' works in English, depending on which part of that environment the sentence emphasizes.
Also written or said as 아이돌판, idol scene, dolpan
2. The nuance
Check the scope of the statement. '돌판에서 쓰는 말' describes language used in that scene, whereas '우리 팬덤에서 쓰는 말' narrows the claim to one fandom. A speaker's opinion about 돌판 is not proof that every fan or agency behaves the same way. The word is conversational and can sound insider-oriented; 아이돌 문화 or 아이돌 업계 is clearer in a formal explanation. Compare 덕질, a person's fan activities, and 입덕, becoming a fan: 돌판 names the surrounding scene, not a personal action.
3. Examples
“돌판 용어를 몰라서 공지를 읽는 데 시간이 걸렸어.”
Reading the notice took me a while because I didn't know the idol-scene terminology.
“돌판 전체 얘기가 아니라 우리 팬덤 안에서 있었던 일이야.”
This happened within our fandom; I'm not talking about the entire idol scene.
