NoCapWiki editorial explanation
1. What does it mean?
포도알 literally means an individual grape. Concertgoers use it as a visual nickname for the small available-seat dots on a ticketing map, especially grape-like purple markers. 'Available seat' is often the useful English translation in a ticketing chat; a literal reference to grapes would miss the situation.
Also written or said as available seat, seat dot, podoal
2. The nuance
A marker on the map is not the same as a completed booking. It may disappear while another buyer selects it, and an interface can use different colors or shapes. '포도알 잡았다' can express excitement about selecting a seat, but check whether the speaker completed payment before interpreting it as a confirmed ticket. Compare 피켓팅, stressful competition for tickets, and 취켓팅, trying for released cancellations. 포도알 names the visual opportunity rather than either ticket-buying strategy.
3. Examples
“새로고침하니까 포도알이 하나 보였는데 금방 사라졌어.”
One available-seat dot appeared when I refreshed, but it vanished quickly.
“포도알은 눌렀지만 아직 결제까지 끝난 건 아니야.”
I selected the seat marker, but I haven't finished paying yet.
